Best Coast's sophomore album finds singer-songwriter Bethany Cosentino front and center on songs that represent a deep attachment to her home state of California, celebrating its weather, ocean, and landscape. Produced by Jon Brion (Fiona Apple) at Capitol Studios, the album moves away from the fuzzy lo-fi garage sound of their debut toward a cleaner, 1960s/70s-inspired jangling alt-country style.

Following the unexpected viral and critical success of their 2010 debut album, the songs reflect the stress of sudden public attention, touring, and feeling displaced or overwhelmed. Unlike the first record - which focused heavily on teenage-style romantic angst, beach lounging, and her cat Snacks - this project deals with growing up, cutting back on bad habits and shifting away from toxic relationships toward personal stability and comfort.

Highlights include singles "The Only Place", "Why I Cry", and "Do You Love Me Like You Used To".

This vinyl edition produced by Jewel City in 2026.
