Randy Newman's fourth studio album for Reprise was his first real commercial breakthrough and features stellar guest artists Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Bernie Leadon of Eagles, and Ry Cooder.

Good Old Boys was initially envisioned as a concept album about a character named Johnny Cutler, an everyman of the Deep South. A kernel of this concept survived the release, focusing on broader issues of slavery and racism, most stridently on the opening song "Rednecks", a satire of both institutional racism in the Deep South and the hypocrisy of the northern states in response.

This Rhino Reserve Audiophile edition was lacquer cut from the Original Analog Master by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab.
