Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner wrote Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino in 2016 on a Steinway Vertegrand piano in his Los Angeles home. The album is a major left turn from the band's blockbuster 'AM' record but the way Alex Turner swaps witty sleaze for absurdist suave makes it a totally bemusing and fascinating listen. The record features a rich sound that embodies lounge pop, space pop, glam rock and psychedelic pop, as well as elements of jazz. Ultimately, Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino is just a snappy new outfit for a group that knows experimentation and diversity are keys to longevity.
