Drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz recalled that writing sessions had them stiving to become “the most brutal band on earth,” and songs like “Meat Hook Sodomy” certainly thrive in the extreme. Between its ruthlessly cut-throat lyrics, Chris Barnes’ game-changing gutturals, the unendingly extreme performances and Butchered’s memorably depraved artwork, Corpse quickly became the band to beat in the Nineties.
