Helplessness Blues sees Fleet Foxes heighten and extend themselves, adding new instrumentation to their sound, with a focus on clear, direct lyrics, and an emphasis on group vocal harmonies. Equally disarming is the quality of the songwriting, which, for all its complexity, never sounds as if it's been agonized over in the way it apparently has. It features the single "Montezuma".
