Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid

Janelle Monáe's The ArchAndroid immediately dazzles with it's ambitious nature. Clocking in at 70-minutes, the 18-track epic comprising two suites, each beginning with an overture, telling a futuristic story starring a messianic android. The album features multiple collaborations, including Saul Williams, Big Boi, Of Montreal and Deep Cotton. The most impressive thing about The ArchAndroid isn't that it bounces between genres, but that it does so without compromising quality or cohesion.

Monáe has never relented from her messages of acceptance, understanding and redefinition regarding the phenological Self and Other. Self-identified as bisexual and pansexual, Monáe’s main goal with every endeavor is to champion civil rights for all marginalized people, be they connected to race, patriarchy, class, faith, or the vast LGBTQ+ spectrum.
