Pet Shop Boys continued to push further into electronic music with their 1993 album Very. Stylistically, Very is somewhat of a counter-reaction to its stately predecessor Behaviour. The production and lyrical themes are frequently more upbeat; influenced by both the rise of video games and techno, the group experimented with more complex electronic arrangements and time signatures. The era's change in sound was mirrored by the overhauling of their visual aesthetic from sombre minimalism into the purposefully synthetic - and now-iconeic - maximalist avant-pop-art of conical hats and computer-generated videos.

Highlights include the singles "Go West", a Village People cover, "Can Your Forgive Her?" and "I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind of Thing".
