Ultra was a turning point in the band's career: while still exploring their signature themes of integrity, isolation, and love as a quasi-religious experience. The 1997 record was the band's first album after the departure of key member Alan Wilder and, following a near-death experience, a newly sober and vocally-trained Dave Gahan.

Produced by Tim Simenon, Ultra casts a wide sonic palette, from the synth-pop of "It's No Good", the techno-metallic-rock of "Barrel of a Gun" and "Useless", to the soaring, melancholic "Home." Lead songwriter Martin Gore's lyrics tell us about tears, longing, patience, and hope, with nuance, depth, and intelligence that is the band's legacy.

This vinyl edition produced by Mute Records / Columbia Records in 2025. Remastered by Legacy Recordings. Gatefold sleeve.
