Far East Suite is Duke Ellington's 1967 concept album inspired by his groups' tour through Asia. Written by Ellington and his longtime collaborator Billy Strayhorn, it's considered a post-war career peak. Ellington's ability to communicate points of contact and conflict between cultures, assimilating the blues to Eastern modes on compositions like "Blue Pepper (Far East of the Blues)", never sounds unduly self-conscious and is essential listening for any Ellington fan.
